The Cathedral-Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Zaragoza, reminiscent of the great mosques of Istanbul, was built on the exact spot where, according to some writings, the Virgin Mary appeared to Santiago in 40 A.D. This architectural work, legendary and impressive, is considered to possess such sanctity and protection from the heavens that during the Spanish Civil War three bombs were dropped on it and none of them exploded.
