Segovia and its architectural legacy
Destinations, Castilla y León
Segovia overflows with culture and history, to the point that a monumental Roman aqueduct crosses the center of the city. This is the most famous and photographed monument, but the fortress-palace of the Alcazar is intertwined with the medieval royalty of Spain and is worth exploring.
Discover the authentic Segovia from the hand of a certified private guide.
A lot to see
The Alcazar was the home of kings, queens and thanks to its storybook towers often ranks among the most beautiful castles in Spain. There are also many medieval Romanesque churches scattered throughout the city, along with opulent Renaissance palaces, all perched on a rocky outcrop stranded by two steep valleys and surrounded by streams.
The Roman aqueduct is unique. This amazing structure is one of the largest Roman monuments in Europe and the emblem of Segovia. It runs for 15 kilometers before reaching the city and continued to transport water to Segovia from the Cold River until the 19th century. The aqueduct dates back to the first century, during the rule of Emperor Domitian. What is most intriguing is the way its intertwined stones are held together due in large part to the force of gravity.
But Segovia is much more. The romantic design of its streets is ideal to get lost and discover its magnificent cathedral, the Casa del Sol, the Casa de los Picos, the Jewish quarter, the Calle Real or the extraordinary Granja de San Ildefonso. Let a certified guide show you around like you could never have imagined.
