A lot to see
The Romans founded the city of Cáceres around 25 B.C. in the region of Extremadura, in the southwest of Spain. It is known by visitors as one of the most attractive cities in this area of the peninsula. The old town, known as Ciudad Monumental, still maintains a medieval atmosphere with its ancient walls and low percentage of modern buildings.
One of the curiosities is the large number of stork’s nests that can be found in the trees and on the roofs. The city is very accessible for pedestrians and allows you to visit all places on foot. The narrow streets will transport visitors to another century and captivate them with its ancient charm.
The WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) is a festival about music, arts and dances of the world, held in Cáceres since 1992, and is a free intercultural event. In addition to musical performances by different groups and soloists, other activities are also organized such as workshops, parades, craft markets and the fusion of different cultures.
One of the things that most surprises the visitor is the preservation of the buildings, especially the 30 towers that still survive from the Arab period. The city wall is still standing today and the difference between ancient and modern architecture is very noticeable.
The traveler will find places of great historical and tourist interest such as the Tower of Bujaco or the Arch of the Star that was built in the 18th century from some ruins of the 15th century, and designed by Manuel de Lara y Churriguera. Also the Church of Santa Maria and the Church of San Mateo, where you can see architectural details of Baroque, Gothic and Renaissance style.
Cáceres is also surrounded by vast nature where you can enjoy a multitude of outdoor activities that give added value to a destination that already offers a multitude of options.
If you are looking for a different destination where you can get to know a truly surprising area of Spain full of places to discover, Caceres is your place. Let a certified guide show you around like you could never have imagined.
