A lot to see
Burgos is synonymous with Gothic art, with Cid Campeador, with the origins of man. It is the home of the Tizona, and a place where the Way of Saint James passes through. It is a truly privileged walk through history.
In its streets you can follow the life of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar and visit his remains and those of Doña Jimena in the Cathedral, declared a World Heritage Site. But Burgos is much more than that: it is finding Mudejar art plasterwork in the Arco de Santa María, it is being surprised by the 16th century altarpiece of the Church of San Nicolás de Bari, work of Francisco de Colonia. It is to visit the Church of San Lesmes or the Monastery of San Juan, or to see a panoramic view of the city from the Castle of Burgos. It is to visit the Real Monasterio de Las Huelgas, in the middle of the Way of Santiago. ES follow the Arlanzón to the Fuentes Blancas park, where the Cartuja de Miraflores, one of the best examples of late Gothic in Spain, is located.
The evolution of our species would not be comprehensible without the findings of the Sierra de Atapuerca, also a World Heritage Site, which can be visited in the Museum of Human Evolution, a reference point for understanding the origin of man.
Burgos has a lot to discover. History and legend in a province that cannot be missed.
